ART TPS II

For Xmas, Dave Hamilton sent me an ART TPS II (from Applied Research & Technology), which is a tube-driven rackmount preamp. This was a device I had no idea I needed until Dave started talking to me about how my mic set up for my GarageBand recordings. Accordingly, I am stoked about setting it up. As soon as I do, I’ll post a real review, but I was so excited, I wanted to post about getting it.


Short list o’ specs:


  • Two independent inputs that take XLR (balanced) or 1/4" inputs (one of them is balanced, if I am reading this correctly).
  • Dual analog and LED meters (one per channel.
  • The pre-amping itself is done with tubes, which should equal a warmer sound.
  • A few more things…
