DR Handmade Strings

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

A year or so ago, this cat (whom I respect) at Guitar Showcase turned me on to DR Handmade Strings. These are a round core, hand-wound string, and I’ve only used the company’s guitar product, but boy are they terrific!

I got to thinking about it this evening as I was replacing the strings on my Les Paul, and every time I do that, I remember anew how much I like them. They feel good, they stay in tune, and they last a bit longer than other strings I’ve used in the past.

It supposedly has something to do with the round core they use; according to the story I got from the cat at Guitar Showcase, other strings use a flat core, or something like that. I don’t know much about guitar string technology, but I do know that playing DR strings feels and sounds good. :-)

I started using Zakk Wylde GHS Boomers a year or so ago and haven’t looked back. I may have to grab your guitar while I’m out there and give these a try though :-)

What size do you use, Jim? If I can, I’ll grab you a set.

    I use 10 or 11—thanks Brian!
