My son is starting private drum lessons at a local music store. On our first visit, he sat in during a friend's lesson while I browsed the shop.

Big mistake. Now I've got the bug again. The Yamaha BX-1 bass I bought years ago (because it was light, and playing 3-5 weddings a weekend was ripping my shoulder apart), now has the subtlety of a brick after toying with some really sweet Fenders. I could swear I was getting vibrato just by *thinking* about rocking my finger on the strings of a Precision Fretless.

I also want to pick up a little FireWire mixer, and I already bought up a cheap mic in case I ever do put together that podcast or lay down the vocals to the song I wrote for my wife.

I was really impressed by the sound of some of the tiny practice amps they had -- really rich and full.

For now, though, I think I'll be content with picking up a cheap electric guitar to play through the computer. I came across some old big band scores I arranged in high school, and I've been wondering if I could put them together in GarageBand. I know I'd be a lot more proficient playing the parts on a guitar than a keyboard.

Now, if I could only find a way to buy enough time to do all these things.

I'm gong to have a lot of fun next week. I'm getting a Variax guitar from Line 6 -- it's the 600 model. This is a digital guitar that when plugged into the PODxt Live gives you a complete digital experience.

So, using the toggle switch I can can pretty much anything I want including tunings. It should be pretty interesting to test it out.

I've been on a GAS diet, mostly because I have a Mustang with a sick transmission and in need of a new roof.

But I lust, oh do I lust.

Oh I've been going nuts in that department lately. My problem is I've been feeding my GAS and buying all this crap. I just purchased a Heil PR-20 vocal mic (because I got really sick and tired of the SM-58 sound), and just yesterday purchased a pair of Mackie SRM350's to use as monitors and, in a pinch (in a small club) mains.

Loving the Heil mic... that guy knows how to make a dynamic mic.

As for the Mackie's, well, they sound good in the studio upstairs, and we'll try 'em out for monitors tomorrow night. Funny thing about that... I use ear monitors, so I actually won't be able to tell... but the other guys can't hear zip with the monitors they have, so I figured it was time for me to step in and solve the problem once and for all. Let's hope it works. :-)
