A year or so ago, this cat (whom I respect) at Guitar Showcase turned me on to DR Handmade Strings. These are a round core, hand-wound string, and I’ve only used the company’s guitar product, but boy are they terrific!

For the first time in years Monique and I went out for New Years Eve. Friends of ours invited us over to their house for a potluck, music and lots of fine drink. It’s amazing the how the music genre changes as the night goes on.

Public Enemy. To me, they’ve always represented what’s good and right about rap music; from the message to the musicianship, Public Enemy has always been the standard.

I find myself being something I haven’t been in a long time: a N00B. I am, at least on this site, and amongst the crowd of people who make up this site, the new guy. I’ve only been playing an instrument for around two years, and if you ask my roomie (who is also one of the members of this Motley Crew), who must put up with my mis-fingerings and…interesting musical ear, it shows. It’s a new experience, and one I’m rather enjoying, which may be surprising to a lot of folks.

Those that know me well know that there is only one guitar player—Zakk Wylde. I like a bunch of people for a variety of reasons, but nobody beats Zakk. Recently though I’ve been listening to a lot of Godsmack and this band can really rock.

I never realized how difficult it was to find decent drum loops until I started using GarageBand, Logic and Cubase and went from a guitar player to someone that wanted to start making songs.

For Xmas, Dave Hamilton sent me an ART TPS II (from Applied Research & Technology), which is a tube-driven rackmount preamp. This was a device I had no idea I needed until Dave started talking to me about how my mic set up for my GarageBand recordings. Accordingly, I am stoked about setting it up. As soon as I do, I’ll post a real review, but I was so excited, I wanted to post about getting it.

Well, I guess I’m second with a review, but what the hell.

I haven’t slept well in years and last night was particularly bad. So, I do what I think many guitars players do in situations like this—I play.
